Pulp (2013) Review by (littleanna_7)
If you're after a movie that is deeper with a more plausible plot linethan the average Kevin Smith film, then Pulp probably isn't for you.

If, however, you want some good British banter, geek-based humour, anda rather ridiculous premise for a storyline, then I'd highly recommendthis little indie gem.

The story follows Tony, a struggling comic book writer, and his twobest friends Rick and Keith, as they launch The Sodomizer, their lastattempt at succeeding in the comic book industry, at the BritishInternational Comic Show, whilst working undercover to find a moneylaundering gang (see, ridiculous storyline). The thing is, the plotquickly becomes secondary to the characters, some less lovable (Tyler)than others, their relationships, and the genuinely laugh out loudmoments.

Apart from the slight over-use of the f-word (although I'm probably alittle older than the target audience), there really isn't much not tolike about this rather silly, eccentric, geek- tastic film. BeatsStreaminging episodes 1-3 of Star Wars at any rate.

Pulp (2013) Review by partridgefd from United Kingdom
Better than I expected. Pulp isn't deep but it is funny and made melaugh more than a few times.

The trailer made it look like a typical crude Jackass style comedy, butits got a lot more heart than the trailer makes it seem.

The three lead lads have a good relationship and the supportingcharacters are just about wacky enough not to be clichés. Theundercover policeman was so outrageous I couldn't help liking him morethan the hero.

The story is pretty ridiculous, but I don't Streaming a comedy for storyand apart from a few exceptions most comedy film stories areridiculous.

The film isn't as polished as a typical Hollywood blockbuster but onceI got into it I didn't really notice. If you want a bit of fun and afew laughs check it out.

Pulp (2013) Review by jonnygjonson from United Kingdom
A cast and crew of relative newcomers; not a known actor in sight; shotin the (not so) glamorous locations of Birmingham and Stoke; and with abudget seemingly accumulated from the bottom of a wishing well, 'Pulp'sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. But if the directors (AdamHamdy and Shaun Magher) wished for a fun, energetic movie that keepsyou smiling and laughing throughout, then their wish was granted.

'Pulp' is the story of Tony Leary (Jay Sutherland), the haplesscomic-book publisher of Junk Comics, whose previous work has beendescribed as the worst printed material since Mein Kampf. With bills hecan't pay, and the UK comic convention approaching, he has one lastroll of the die at turning his fortunes around. Somehow, he's draftedin by the police to help them uncover a drug gang, who are using arival comic-book company to launder their money.

If the plot sounds a bit bonkers, that's because it absolutely is.Unashamedly so. Throughout, the film revels in its own buffoonery, tovarying degrees of success; prolonged heated exchanges betweencharacters about movies such as 'Inception' and 'Star Wars' really workas moments of well-written pop-culture references, whereas some of thezany characters are so over-the-top and at odds with the rest of thetone, that they feel like they belong in another (perhaps animated)film entirely.

The acting performances are all sound, despite the characters rangingfrom the believable to the downright ridiculous, and it's this lack ofa consistent tone that's probably the films weakest point. You cannever quite fully invest in the world, because you're not quite surewhat that world is meant to be. Whilst Jay Sutherland does a great jobat portraying Tony Leary's trials and tribulations in athree-dimensional way, some of the other characters - such as thebumbling geek side-kick, Keith (Simon Burbage), and the aggressive cop,Tyler (Neil Jennings) - may as well be cardboard cut-outs (perhaps notthrough any fault of the actors themselves may I add).

Sometimes it all just works and sometimes it all falls a bit flat andfrankly that's the film in a nutshell.

That said, like Kevin Smith's 'Clerks', 'Pulp' has no pretences aboutwhat it's trying to do or say; it really is just an enjoyable, at timescareless, movie which does exactly as it says on the tin.

If you're willing to overlook the shortcomings, there really is a greatlittle movie here, probably best viewed with a few friends after anight out.
